Would you like to be unbreakable and, when an enemy tries to attack your wizard, teleport him into the lake with a deft twist of the Weave? Would you like to be unbreakable and force enemies away from your allies knocking them over and stunning them and bashing them to the ground with your shield, or yanking them away with a polearm or spiked chain? Would you like to be unbreakable and command the sheer forces of nature, evoking walls of obsidian spikes and rooting your foes in the earth? Would you like to be unbreakable and unearthly agile, leaping from foe to foe whilst cloaked in the blinding light of your god? ![]() Walking around you and eating the less armored caster-types is a viable strategy on your enemies' part and in a world where you are being paid specifically to keep monsters from murdering your more-killable co-workers while they make you stronger/heal you/call down fire from the heavens/shoot monsters repeatedly in the eye, this is something of a flaw.Īs such, you may want to contemplate some secondary goals. You would indeed be damned hard to hit, and more than durable when the occasional lucky shot gets through.īUT you may want to consider taking on some other priorities, since right now you essentially want to be a five-foot impenetrable wall of iron. And when they do hit, just shrugging the blows, quipping "Is that your best shot?".Ĭertainly! There are too many such ways to count, and barring supplements your way is a pretty good one. My question is, are there any other ways of making a super-defensive warrior that does not rely on healing, mobility, or moving the enemies around? Is my Holy Hobbit the ultimate in that kind of defensive fighting? I want to sit there, dodging and parrying the blows, using my armor, taunting the enemies for not being able to hit me. If he survived to level 2, the utility prayer Sacred Circle would be awesome. The AC would be normally 20, 22 when adjacent to two enemies. After a while I settled on a halfling paladin (since halflings get the Lost in the Crowd feat, and since paladins get better armor than even fighters!), using plate armor and a heavy shield, always trying to lock himself up with two large enemies. You don't get DEX modifiers to AC when using heavy armor (like in older editions), and I don't see many feats or powers that would help this build. ![]() However, at first glance, this build seemed difficult to make. So:Ģnd priority: hit points, other defenses, damage reduction, not getting hit Any other abilities that lessen the damage he takes or makes him harder to hit would be great. ![]() Hit points would have to be at least moderate, and saving throws (I guess they're called "defenses" these days, while "saving throws" being something different) should be good as well. My idea was making an extremely defensive warrior (presumably of the fighter class?), someone who would trade off all other abilities (hitting, damage, mobility, healing surges.) in favor of an absurdly high armor class. My D&D experience comes from waaay older editions, but I decided to try 4E, as a player.
